Davido Unveils ‘Oriadé’ – A Royal Return to His Roots

After fifteen years of dominating the Afrobeats scene, Davido is preparing to deliver what might be his most personal project yet. The Nigerian superstar has officially announced Oriadé, his sixth studio album, dropping July 31, 2026. And if the regal imagery and symbolic messaging are any indication, this won’t just be another album rollout—it’s a full-blown coronation.

The album’s title alone carries profound meaning. Oriadé translates to “the crowned head” in Yoruba, combining “ori” (destiny) and “adé” (crown). For Davido, born into the Adeleke royal family of Ede, Osun State, this isn’t just clever branding—it’s his actual heritage. Oriade is one of his given names, making this album a direct connection to his lineage. In the cinematic announcement trailer, he appears draped in a stunning burgundy-and-black embroidered traditional outfit, positioned near a throne with a crown in frame. His caption said it all: “The kingdom expands. Chosen long before the throne.”

In a conversation with Billboard, Davido reflected on his journey: “Over fifteen years ago, I decided to trust something I couldn’t fully explain. I just knew music was my destiny. The biggest blessings often come from betting on yourself, even when the destination isn’t in sight yet.” That gamble has clearly paid off. His 2025 album 5ive climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard World Albums chart, delivering standout collaborations with Omah Lay on “With You,” plus features from Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Becky G, Shenseea, and YG Marley. This year alone, he’s already made his Coachella debut alongside Adekunle Gold and contributed to the official FIFA World Cup 2026 soundtrack with Major Lazer and Nelly Furtado.

The first taste of Oriadé comes via lead single “I Know Who I Be,” produced by South African talents Jazzwrld and GL Ceejay. If history is any guide, expect this album to blend cultural depth with global appeal, honoring his roots while pushing Afrobeats forward. July 31 can’t come soon enough.
