The Kingdom Expands! Davido Announces New Album Oriadé

Davido’s Royal Lineage Takes Center Stage on Sixth Studio Album ‘Oriadé’

Fifteen years deep into a career that’s helped define modern Afrobeats, Davido is preparing to deliver what might be his most personal project yet. The superstar has officially announced Oriadé, his sixth studio album, set to drop on July 31, 2026, and this time he’s weaving his royal heritage directly into the music.

The album’s title isn’t just another catchy name. Oriadé combines the Yoruba words “ori” (destiny) and “adé” (crown), translating to “the crowned head.” For Davido, born into the Adeleke royal family of Ede in Osun State, this is more than symbolism—Oriadé is literally one of his given names. The announcement came with all the regal theatrics you’d expect: a cinematic teaser showing the artist draped in burgundy-and-black embroidered traditional wear, a throne positioned behind him, and a crown within reach. “The kingdom expands. Chosen long before the throne,” he captioned, letting the visuals speak for themselves.

In a conversation with Billboard, Davido reflected on the journey that brought him here. “Over fifteen years ago, I decided to trust something I couldn’t fully explain. I just knew music was my destiny,” he shared. “The biggest blessings often come from betting on yourself, even when the destination isn’t in sight yet.” That leap of faith has already paid dividends. His 2025 album 5ive climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard World Albums chart, powered by the Omah Lay collaboration “With You” and features from Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Becky G, Shenseea, and YG Marley. This year alone, he’s made his Coachella debut—bringing out Adekunle Gold for a surprise performance—and landed a spot on the official FIFA World Cup 2026 soundtrack alongside Major Lazer and Nelly Furtado.

The first offering from Oriadé is already making waves. Lead single “I Know Who I Be,” produced by South African duo Jazzwrld and GL Ceejay, signals a fresh sonic direction while maintaining the infectious energy Davido’s known for. With the album dropping at the end of July, it’s clear that OBO isn’t just expanding his kingdom—he’s fortifying it.
