Nigerian Artists Who’ve Owned the Tiny Desk Concert Stage

NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series has become the ultimate litmus test for authentic artistry. Strip away the pyrotechnics, the elaborate visuals, and the massive production budgets, and what remains is pure talent backed by live instrumentation. For Nigerian artists bringing Afrobeats to this intimate setting, the Tiny Desk has become a rite of passage—a chance to prove their craft translates beyond stadium spectacle to something more vulnerable and immediate. Burna Boy kicked things off for the new generation in 2019, delivering a masterclass with Gbona, Wetin Man Go Do, Dangote, and Ye. Two years later, Davido brought his own energy to the desk with Gobe, Aye, Risky, and Jowo, while Fireboy DML showcased his romantic sensibilities in 2022 through Like I Do, Tattoo, and his breakout hit Peru. That same year, Adekunle Gold performed from home, delivering soulful renditions of Sinner, Something Different, One Woman, and Okay. Most recently, Ayra Starr delivered an eight-song set in 2026 that included Birds Sing of Money, Gimme Dat, Who’s Dat Girl, Tornado, Rush, Commas, Amin, and Orun. And Asake? He brought Fuji music straight to NPR’s headquarters in 2025, running through an impressive nine-track set that featured Why Love, Amapiano, Awodi, Remember, Lonely at the Top, Ototo, MMS, Organise, and Fuji Vibe. Each performance has added another chapter to the story of Afrobeats’ global conquest, proving that Nigerian artists can command any stage, no matter how small.
