Ayra Starr Makes Hollywood Debut in Epic “Children of Blood and Bone” Film Adaptation

The wait for “Children of Blood and Bone” just got a whole lot more exciting. Paramount Pictures has dropped the first official images from the highly anticipated film adaptation, and the visuals are absolutely stunning. Set to hit theaters and IMAX screens in January 2027, this blockbuster brings Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel to life—and Afrobeats superstar Ayra Starr is officially making her Hollywood debut.

The film transports audiences to Orïsha, a mystical kingdom steeped in Yoruba mythology, where magic has been violently stripped from the Maji people by a ruthless monarch. Thuso Mbedu leads the cast as Zélie Adebola, a young woman on a dangerous mission to restore what was stolen. She’s joined by Tosin Cole as her brother Tzain, Amandla Stenberg as Princess Amari, and Damson Idris as Prince Inan in an epic battle against oppression. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood, known for “The Woman King” and “The Old Guard,” brings her visionary style to the project, and key scenes were filmed right in Lagos, Nigeria—adding authentic cultural texture to the fantasy epic.
