In a candid sit-down with Carterefe, the Afrobeats heavyweight dropped a revelation that’s got the music community buzzing: “B4 B4” wasn’t supposed to be his song at all. The track was originally created by Mayorkun and FOLA, who had already laid down the complete record before Mayorkun extended an invitation for Davido to jump on it. “They put me on the song. Na Mayorkun & FOLA at first, then Mayorkun sent it to me that he wants me on the song. When I did my verse, Mayorkun said I can have it for my album,” Davido shared, highlighting the generous collaborative spirit that often fuels Nigeria’s music scene.

The plot thickens even further. According to Davido, “B4 B4” nearly missed the Oriadé tracklist entirely. With the album already wrapped and ready to go, he was on the fence about including it until his longtime aide Israel DMW became an unexpected A&R. “I had already finished the album and I wasn’t sure if ‘B4 B4’ would get on it. But Israel DMW said, ‘Oga the song sweet oh, abeg,'” Davido recalled with a laugh, adding a cheeky jab: “But at least he didn’t leak it like ‘Flex My Soul.'” The comment, referencing a previous leak incident, shows Davido’s ability to find humor in the chaos that sometimes comes with being one of Africa’s biggest artists.
