Goldberg Crowns Ibadan’s Cocoa House with Monumental Talking Drum Installation
In a bold celebration of Yoruba heritage, Goldberg Lager has placed one of West Africa’s most powerful cultural symbols atop one of its most iconic buildings. On August 7, 2026, the beer brand unveiled a massive talking drum installation above Cocoa House in Ibadan, creating a striking new landmark that bridges Nigeria’s past and present.
The installation brings together two pillars of regional pride: the talking drum, which has carried Yoruba stories, praise songs, and community messages for generations, and Cocoa House, the 26-storey tower that stood as West Africa’s first skyscraper when it opened in 1965. Built from the wealth of Nigeria’s cocoa trade, Cocoa House has defined Ibadan’s skyline for over six decades. Now it carries a new crown—one that beats with cultural rhythm every hour, sounding the values of Omolúàbí followed by the hourly chime.
Sarah Agha, Marketing Director at Nigerian Breweries Plc, positioned the project as more than corporate branding. “This is more than an installation; it is a celebration of our heritage, our cultural pride and the power of community,” she said at the unveiling. The event drew Goldberg ambassadors Kunle Remi and Odunlade Adekola, Big Brother Naija winner Imisi, and crowds who traveled from Lagos to witness the moment. Abdulrahman Yinusa, Group Managing Director/CEO of Odu’a Investment, emphasized that the drum doesn’t just make noise—it speaks the language of tradition, reminding the city daily that Yoruba culture remains “alive, assertive and proud.”
The installation connects to Goldberg’s “Our Beat. Our Gold.” campaign, which celebrates the rhythms of Nigerian life—from music and football to festivals and family gatherings. As Nigerian culture continues its global expansion through Afrobeats, Nollywood, and fashion, the Cocoa House talking drum stands as a visible declaration: the heartbeat of that influence still pulses strongest at home.
