Cheekychizzy Drops Introspective Album ‘W.O.T.S’ Exploring Identity and Growth
Nigerian artist Cheekychizzy has released his latest project, W.O.T.S (Word On The Streets), a deeply personal album born from two years of self-discovery across different continents, relationships, and life experiences. The project represents more than just a collection of tracks—it’s a philosophical journey where the artist found himself being shaped by the very music he was creating.
The album’s concept revolves around a powerful metaphor: that everyone navigates their own “streets,” whether that’s Lagos, Los Angeles, the music industry, family dynamics, or personal struggles. Throughout the W.O.T.S campaign, Cheekychizzy poses a central question to listeners: “What’s the word on your street?” His own answer? “Find out”—a challenge to embrace life’s uncertainties rather than overthink them. As he puts it, discovering yourself requires living fully, taking risks, and allowing yourself to evolve through experience. The artist reflects on how his environment has molded him, while now working to distinguish which parts of that influence are authentically his own.
The 10-track album features “God Design,” “Wah Wah,” “Odeshi,” “Too Much Going On,” “SHSH,” “Shina Peters,” “Nasty Lover” featuring Dej Loaf and Konshens, “Jack Pot,” “Kpakorokpa,” and “No Go Jones.” The standout collaboration “Nasty Lover” bridges Nigerian, Detroit, and Jamaican musical worlds, showcasing Cheekychizzy’s international reach while maintaining his African roots. The project ultimately captures the experience of a Nigerian creative navigating global spaces while staying grounded in his cultural foundation.
