Yemi Alade Celebrates African Unity With Self-Titled Seventh Studio Album

Yemi Alade continues her reign as one of Afrobeats’ most prolific artists with the release of It’s Yemi Alade, a 16-track celebration of pan-African sounds that marks her seventh studio album and tenth project overall. The self-titled release arrives as both a tribute to her longtime supporters and a bold declaration of artistic evolution.

The album showcases Yemi’s signature style of genre-blending across the continent, with the guitar serving as a unifying thread throughout. On “Coco na Yam”, she teams up with Congolese legend Ferré Gola for a rumba-infused collaboration sung in French and Lingala. The romantic highlife jam “Ala Bekee” features Don Jazzy and builds from orchestral grandeur into an infectious wedding band groove. Meanwhile, “Overtake” pairs her with indigenous rapper Jeriq over traditional Igbo percussion, specifically the ekwe slit drum, creating a fiery exchange that honors their shared Nigerian roots.

The sonic palette spans far beyond these highlights. “Titanium” finds Yemi exploring R&B while maintaining her highlife sensibilities, “Earth Song” ventures into Afro-house territory with driving four-on-the-floor beats, and “Paradise” enlists French Congolese artist Singuila for a multilingual midtempo sanctuary.
