The 2026 AFRIMMA Awards wrapped up in spectacular fashion on September 12th, celebrating the pulse of African music in a festival-style ceremony that recognized the continent’s most impactful artists. From established heavyweights to boundary-pushing newcomers, the awards showcased the incredible diversity and global reach of African music today.
BNXN and Sarz took home the coveted Song of the Year trophy for their collaboration “Back Outside,” beating out stiff competition from Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You,” along with tracks from Diamond Platnumz, Black Sherif, and others. Meanwhile, Davido secured the Album of the Year crown with his project “5ive,” triumphing over impressive releases from Black Sherif’s “Top of The Morning Era,” Omah Lay’s “Clarity of Mind,” Asake’s “M$NEY,” and Burna Boy’s “No Sign of Weakness.” The Best Collaboration award went to Diamond Platnumz and Juma Jux for their infectious single “Joy,” highlighting East Africa’s continued dominance in creating cross-border hits.
In the visual arts category, Nigeria’s Director Pink claimed Best Video Director honors, while DR Congo’s Fally Ipupa received the prestigious Crossing Boundaries with Music Award, recognizing his role in bringing African sounds to international audiences. The recognition came in a highly competitive field that included heavyweights like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Rema, and Aya Nakamura, underscoring Fally Ipupa’s significant impact on expanding African music’s global footprint.
The 2026 edition proved once again that AFRIMMA remains essential in spotlighting African music’s evolution and its artists who continue breaking barriers worldwide.
