Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has been confirmed as a headliner for the tournament’s first-ever halftime show, joining an unprecedented lineup that includes Shakira, Madonna, BTS, and Justin Bieber. The 11-minute spectacle is scheduled for July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and represents a seismic shift in how global football embraces entertainment.
Burna Boy’s spot on this historic bill makes perfect sense when you consider his growing relationship with the tournament. The African Giant joined forces with Shakira earlier this year for “Dai Dai,” the official 2026 World Cup anthem that dropped on May 15 through Sony Music Latin and Ace Entertainment. The track—whose title translates from Italian as “come on, come on”—seamlessly fuses Afrobeats energy with Latin rhythms, creating a genuinely borderless sound. Co-written by Burna Boy, Shakira, Benny Adam, and Jon Bellion, the song has already been road-tested at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico on June 11, where the two artists delivered a show-stopping performance together.
The halftime production, curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, will also feature Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus (a choir of elementary school students from Staten Island), Coldplay themselves, and even the Muppets.
