Lagos Independent Artists Find Their Platform with New Monthly Live Series

In a city where the global Afrobeats spotlight shines brightest on already-established names, Lagos independent artists just got the stage they’ve been waiting for. Indie Nights Live launched its debut chapter on August 2nd at Bature Brewery, proving that sometimes all that stands between obscurity and recognition is the right room with the right sound system.

The six-part monthly series, created by Afro Vibes Africa in partnership with Jack Daniel’s, opened with performances from Lil Qhid, JDess, Coblaze, Dhrey, Suurshi, and Victor Collins—artists who’ve built their followings the old-fashioned way, through streaming uploads, social media engagement, and grinding through smaller venues. What made the night significant wasn’t just the talent on display, but the infrastructure behind it: professional production values, quality sound engineering, and a dedicated audience ready to discover new music. According to Funmi Abimbola, Senior Brand Manager at Brown Forman Portfolio Nigeria, the partnership made perfect sense. “Independence isn’t a mood for us; it’s the whole brand. Jack Daniel’s has done things its own way since 1866, and that’s exactly what drew us to this room: artists who’d built an audience the same way, with no shortcuts and no permission.”

The initiative addresses a real gap in Nigeria’s booming music ecosystem. While Afrobeats continues its global domination, the industry machinery—playlists, label deals, sync opportunities—remains concentrated around a select few artists. Independent musicians creating compelling work often lack access to proper platforms that take their artistry as seriously as they do. Indie Nights Live changes that equation by offering monthly showcases with the production quality typically reserved for signed acts. With five more editions scheduled through December, the series positions itself as infrastructure rather than just another talent showcase, giving emerging artists the visibility they’ve earned but rarely receive.
