When marketing executive Bozoma Saint John and her partner Keely Watson tied the knot in Accra, they didn’t just exchange vows—they delivered a masterclass in honoring African tradition with serious star power backing them up. The traditional Akan ceremony brought together nearly 1,000 guests at the private residence of former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, with African music royalty Tiwa Savage, Efya, KiDi, and Gyakie all in attendance to celebrate the couple’s union.
The ceremony was pure cultural elegance from start to finish. Before the festivities kicked off, Bozoma and Keely walked their guests through the sacred customs that set an Akan wedding apart from Western ceremonies. The tradition centers on uniting two families rather than just two individuals, with Keely fulfilling an extensive dowry list that included fine spirits, premium textiles, cash gifts, and stunning jewelry. But the groom went above and beyond, flying to Mumbai to hand-select gemstones for a custom eternity band that mirrored the vibrant colors of Bozoma’s Kente cloth. Each stone carried deep meaning—a red ruby for royalty and passion, orange sapphire for creativity, yellow diamond for joy, blue sapphire for wisdom, and green emerald for everlasting love, all framed by brilliant white diamonds.
For the ceremony itself, Bozoma stunned in hand-woven Kente from Goba Kente and Naana Adobea, styled over a white eyelet-embroidered underskirt with a structured Tikua headpiece, layered gold jewelry, and a jeweled feathered fan. Keely matched her energy in a toga-style Kente drape with geometric patterns and a gold crown headband. The evening reception saw them switch into contemporary pieces—Bozoma in a corseted halter-neck Kente gown by Mimmy Yeboah with custom Christian Louboutin heels made from her dress fabric, while Keely wore a tailored brown suit with Kente accents. Tiwa Savage brought her signature glamour to the occasion in a hot pink corseted gown with Kente details by Ghanaian luxury brand Saadia Sanusi, proving once again why she’s a style icon across the continent.
With their Akan ceremony wrapped and a Los Angeles celebration still to come, Bozoma and Keely set a new standard for honoring heritage while celebrating love—with Africa’s finest artists there to witness it all.
