Davido’s Royal Return: Oriadé Album Drops This July
After fifteen years of dominating the Afrobeats landscape, Davido is preparing to deliver what might be his most personal project yet. The Nigerian superstar just unveiled Oriadé, his highly anticipated sixth studio album set to arrive July 31, 2026, and the announcement alone is already generating serious buzz across the global music scene.
The album’s title isn’t just clever wordplay—it’s deeply rooted in Davido’s heritage and identity. Oriadé fuses the Yoruba words “ori” (destiny) and “adé” (crown), translating to “the crowned head.” For Davido, born into the royal Adeleke family of Ede in Osun State, this isn’t merely an artistic concept but a reflection of his actual lineage. The cinematic teaser he shared on social media drives this point home: OBO appears draped in an embroidered burgundy-and-black traditional outfit, positioned regally with a throne and crown in the frame. His caption read simply, “The kingdom expands. Chosen long before the throne.” In a conversation with Billboard, Davido reflected on his journey: “Over fifteen years ago, I decided to trust something I couldn’t fully explain. I just knew music was my destiny. The biggest blessings often come from betting on yourself, even when the destination isn’t in sight yet.”
Fans already have a taste of what’s coming through the lead single “I Know Who I Be,” which features production from South African hitmakers Jazzwrld and GL Ceejay. This project follows his 2025 album 5ive, which climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard World Albums chart and spawned the massive collaboration “With You” featuring Omah Lay, alongside features from Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Becky G, Shenseea, and YG Marley. Davido’s 2026 has already been monumental—from his Coachella debut where he brought out Adekunle Gold to landing on the official FIFA World Cup 2026 soundtrack with Major Lazer and Nelly Furtado. Now with Oriadé on the horizon, the Baddest is ready to remind everyone exactly who wears the crown.
