Big Wiz is coming home. After a year of strategic collaborations and global moves, Wizkid has been confirmed as the opening night headliner for Detty December Fest 2026, marking a triumphant return to Lagos for one of Afrobeats’ biggest exports. The Grammy-winning superstar will take the stage on December 18, kicking off what promises to be an expanded two-week festival experience running through December 30.
This year’s Detty December comes with a significant evolution in format. For the first time, the festival will feature dual stages—the main Festival Stage where Wizkid will perform, and a newly introduced Pulse Stage dedicated to showcasing the next wave of African talent. Produced once again by entertainment powerhouse Livespot360, the same team that brought Cardi B’s groundbreaking Nigerian and Ghanaian performances to life, the festival continues to position itself as a cultural anchor for the December homecoming season. Livespot co-founder and chief creative officer Darey Art Alade emphasized that the additional stage reflects Africa’s expanding musical footprint while creating vital platforms for rising artists to shine alongside established icons.
Wizkid’s 2026 appearance follows a deliberately paced year that saw him release the collaborative Real, Vol. 1 EP with Asake in January before focusing on cross-genre partnerships. His 2024 album Morayo, which reached No. 4 on Billboard’s World Albums chart, kept him on the road for much of 2025. Recent standout collaborations include “Dynamite” with Tyla and “Gimme Dat” with Ayra Starr—the latter earning a nod for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards. With tickets already on sale and additional headliners set to be announced in the coming weeks, Detty December Fest 2026 is shaping up to be the homecoming event of the season.
