Big Wiz is coming home. Wizkid has been confirmed as the opening night headliner for Detty December Fest 2026, marking a major homecoming moment for one of Afrobeats’ biggest global ambassadors. The Grammy-winning superstar will take the stage on December 18 in Lagos, kicking off what promises to be an unforgettable two-week celebration of African music and culture.
Running through December 30, this year’s festival is bringing something new to the table. For the first time, Detty December Fest will feature two stages: the main Festival Stage where Wizkid will perform, and the newly introduced Pulse Stage dedicated to showcasing emerging talent and the next generation of African artists. The dual-stage format, orchestrated once again by powerhouse production company Livespot360, signals the festival’s evolution and commitment to nurturing the future of the continent’s music scene. According to Livespot co-founder and chief creative officer Darey Art Alade, the expansion reflects the explosive global growth of African music while creating vital platforms for rising stars to share the spotlight with established icons.
Wizkid’s December performance caps off a relatively quiet year for the artist, at least by his standards. After spending much of 2025 touring behind his acclaimed 2024 album Morayo—which climbed to No. 4 on Billboard’s World Albums chart—he shifted focus to strategic collaborations. The year opened with Real, Vol. 1, a joint EP with Asake released in January, before branching into cross-genre partnerships including “Dynamite” with Tyla and “Gimme Dat” with Ayra Starr. The latter track earned a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards, further cementing his influence across the global music landscape.
With tickets already on sale and additional headliners set to be announced in the coming weeks, Detty December Fest 2026 is shaping up to be the season’s can’t-miss event.
