The countdown is over. Afro Nation Portugal 2026 officially launches today, and Day One’s lineup is serving up a spectacular showcase of African music’s current power players—from Afrobeats royalty to Amapiano’s rising stars.
As thousands of music lovers flood into Praia da Rocha this Friday, July 3, they’ll witness an opening night that perfectly captures the continent’s sonic evolution. Nigerian Grammy winner Burna Boy anchors the festivities, bringing his proven festival dominance to Portugal’s shores once again. The African Giant has practically become synonymous with Afro Nation over the years, consistently drawing massive crowds and delivering performances that remind everyone why Afrobeats has conquered global stages. Joining him at the top of the bill is South Africa’s Tyla, whose meteoric two-year ascent has transformed her into one of Africa’s brightest international stars. Her fusion of Amapiano, Afropop, and R&B has captured worldwide attention, making her Day One slot one of the festival’s most buzzed-about performances.
The opening night also spotlights the genre’s expanding geography. Kenyan vocalist Bien represents East Africa’s growing festival footprint, continuing his solo journey after his time with Sauti Sol. British-Nigerian artist Darkoo brings her unique diaspora perspective to the LIT Stage, while the Piano People Stage transforms into Amapiano headquarters. Leading that charge is Uncle Waffles, the internationally recognized DJ whose career trajectory mirrors the genre’s global explosion. She’s backed by an impressive South African contingent including Zee Nxumalo, Felo Le Tee, Nkosazana Daughter, Royal Musiq, Success SA, JazzWorld, Thukuthela, and GL_Ceejay—essentially creating an all-day Amapiano experience for devoted fans.
