Nigeria’s telecommunications powerhouse MTN has just thrown open the doors for the second season of its groundbreaking music competition, Next Afrobeats Star. After a debut season that proved the country’s talent pool runs deeper than anyone imagined, the telecom giant is doubling down with an even more ambitious edition designed to unearth the next generation of Afrobeats superstars.
The numbers alone tell a compelling story. This year’s winner walks away with a staggering ₦225 million recording deal—a comprehensive package covering everything from music production and marketing to distribution and accommodation, plus a brand new car to match the success. But MTN isn’t stopping there. Even the runners-up are set for life-changing opportunities, with the first runner-up securing ₦150 million, while the third, fourth, and fifth place finalists receive ₦100 million, ₦75 million, and ₦50 million recording deals respectively. Guiding this talent hunt are industry heavyweights Puffy Tee, Ragee, Andre Vibez, and the legendary Masterkraft, who’ll serve as judges throughout the competition.
What makes Next Afrobeats Star particularly special is its track record. Season 1 winner Ayo Benzi, along with finalists Dave Cash, Kaeko, Somto O’Laker, and Lucky Yay!, didn’t just get exposure—they all secured recording contracts and now have their music streaming on major global platforms. “Season 1 was our proof,” explained Emamoke Ogoro, General Manager of Brands and Communication at MTN Nigeria. “Our contestants left owning their intellectual property, with industry credentials and meaningful relationships in a music industry that now knows their names.” Produced in partnership with Ultima Studios and ONErpm, the competition represents more than just entertainment; it’s a genuine pipeline into the professional music business.
Aspiring artists have until August 17, 2026 to throw their hat in the ring. Registration is simple: text NAS to 13013 (₦600 fee applies), then complete your profile and upload your audition material. Regional auditions will hit Lagos, Jos, Enugu, and Benin before the selected contestants battle through various competition stages—Trials, Versus, Pick Me, Live Shows, and the ultimate Grand Showdown—with viewers ultimately deciding who claims the crown through public voting.
