Tems Makes History as First Female Executive Music Producer for Major Film Soundtrack on “Children of Blood and Bone”

Nigerian superstar Tems is breaking new ground in the intersection of Afrobeats and Hollywood. The Grammy-winning artist has been named Executive Music Producer and Curator for Paramount Pictures’ highly anticipated fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone, marking a historic first for a female artist helming a project of this magnitude. The announcement came during an exclusive trailer premiere at Brooklyn Academy of Music, hosted by Lena Waithe, where director Gina Prince-Bythewood revealed the extensive African musical talent powering the film’s sonic landscape.

The collaboration runs deeper than a typical soundtrack placement. Prince-Bythewood disclosed that she immersed herself in Tems and Burna Boy’s music while penning the screenplay, making their creative involvement integral to the film’s DNA. Tems’ hit “Me & U” pulses through the official teaser, and her manager Muyiwa Awoniyi confirmed she’s crafted three original tracks exclusively for the project. Burna Boy joins as Executive Music Consultant, while the roster expands to include Fireboy DML, BNXN (Benson), and Ayra Starr—who pulls double duty by making her Hollywood acting debut in the film itself. Prince-Bythewood promises an “epic, no-skips” soundtrack that channels the novel’s core themes of magic, resistance, and redemption.

Based on Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel, Children of Blood and Bone transports audiences to the world of Orïsha when it hits theaters on January 15, 2027.
