Nigerian-American actress Folake Olowofoyeku has added two prestigious traditional titles to her name, cementing her connection to her roots in a powerful homecoming moment. The CBS sitcom star, best known for her role as Abishola in “Bob Hearts Abishola,” was honored with dual chieftaincy titles in her ancestral hometown of Imo, Ilesa, in Osun State, Nigeria. On July 28, 2026, she shared the deeply personal ceremony with her followers, revealing her new titles: Yeye Oba (Mother of the King) and Yeye Atayese (Mother Who Reforms the World).
The installation ceremony was steeped in tradition, with Olowofoyeku adorned in white traditional attire, coral beads, and golden regalia. Customary rites included the sacred placement of chieftaincy leaves into her crown and a ceremonial gun salute marking her elevated status in the community. This honor carries special significance as the actress continues a family legacy—both of her late parents previously held chieftaincy titles. Born in Lagos on October 26, 1983, as the youngest of 20 children to lawyer and politician Babatunji Olowofoyeku and his wife Felicia, she represents a bridge between her Nigerian heritage and her American career.
Olowofoyeku’s journey from Lagos to Hollywood has been remarkable. After attending Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City and Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in Lagos, she relocated to the United States at 18, earning a theatre degree from the City College of New York. Her breakout came in 2019 when she landed the lead role in “Bob Hearts Abishola,” a CBS comedy co-created by Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky, Al Higgins, and Gina Yashere. The show ran for five seasons and earned her a 2021 NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, solidifying her place as a proud representative of Nigerian excellence on the global stage.
