The king has returned to his throne. Five-time Grammy-nominated Afrobeats superstar Davido has unveiled his highly anticipated sixth studio album, ORIADÉ, through Sony Music UK/RCA Records. Arriving at the perfect moment—as the Nigerian icon marks 15 years of redefining global music—this 13-track project represents both a celebration of his remarkable journey and a bold step into his next chapter.
The album’s title carries deep cultural significance, drawing from Yoruba language roots: Ori meaning “head” or “destiny,” and Adé translating to “crown.” Together, ORIADÉ embodies the concept of becoming—of growing into one’s purpose. Throughout the project, Davido takes listeners on an intimate exploration of the moments, relationships, and experiences that molded him into the artist he is today. The album weaves themes of family, loyalty, gratitude, and Nigerian pride into a sonic tapestry that resonates far beyond the continent. The feature list reads like a who’s who of contemporary talent, including Leon Thomas, Black Sherif, Aya Nakamura, Mayorkun, Fola, Llona, NO11, JAZZWRLD, and GL_Ceejay.
Musically, ORIADÉ showcases Davido’s masterful ability to blend the familiar with the unexpected. Lead single “I Know Who I Be,” featuring JAZZWRLD and GL_Ceejay, finds the artist reflecting on his destiny as the self-proclaimed “King of Afrobeats,” while its accompanying visual brings the narrative full circle by returning to his childhood home. The Amapiano-infused “Gimme Dat Ting” with NO11 channels pure confidence and celebration. Perhaps most intriguing are the album’s creative interpolations: “Amazing Grace” with Black Sherif reimagines the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way” as a soulful love letter carried by Davido’s signature raspy vocals, while “Already Falling” gives Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” an Afrobeats makeover. On “Tell Everybody,” Davido and Leon Thomas merge R&B smoothness with Afrobeats energy, delivering heartfelt declarations of love that break through the usual walls of privacy. It’s a body of work that honors Afrobeats tradition while fearlessly pushing its boundaries forward.
