NotJustOk unveils the Afrobeats Rising Artist Ranking

The Afrobeats landscape is evolving so rapidly that by the time an artist reaches the top of the charts, their breakthrough moment has already passed. NotJustOk has recognized this timing problem and is doing something about it with the launch of their new Afrobeats Rising Artist Ranking—a monthly chart designed to capture artists on the way up, not after they’ve already arrived.

While NotJustOk’s established Power Ranking tells us who’s dominating the genre right now, this new companion chart answers a completely different question: who’s climbing fastest? The distinction matters. An artist like Mavo, who rocketed from the 14th position to the top spot between January and March 2026, represents the kind of explosive momentum that traditional dominance-based charts can’t capture in real time. The Rising Artist Ranking uses month-over-month percentage growth in Power Ranking scores to identify which artists are gaining ground most aggressively. If an artist’s score jumps from 100 to 250 in a single cycle, that 150% surge could land them at number one—spotlighting them while their trajectory is still unfolding rather than after they’ve peaked.

The methodology is intentionally straightforward but comes with a crucial eligibility requirement: the graduation rule. Artists who’ve sustained mainstream success for six months or longer are permanently removed from consideration for the Rising Artist Ranking. This prevents established stars experiencing a comeback from overshadowing genuine newcomers. The chart exists specifically to highlight emerging talent like FOLA, Kidd Carder, Famous Pluto, and 6uff—names that weren’t part of the conversation a year ago but are now actively shaping it. NotJustOk isn’t making predictions about who will dominate six months from now; they’re documenting velocity as it happens. Some artists will translate that momentum into Power Ranking Top 10 placements. Others will plateau. But for fans and industry watchers paying attention, the Rising Artist Ranking offers the earliest signal of who’s coming through the door next.
