NotJustOk has just unveiled the Afrobeats Rising Artist Ranking, a monthly chart designed to capture something their flagship Power Ranking can’t: raw velocity. While the Power Ranking measures who dominates the genre right now, this new companion chart tracks which artists are climbing the fastest. Think of it as the difference between a snapshot and a speedometer. When an artist like Mavo rockets from position 14 to the top spot in just two months—as he did earlier this year—the traditional numbers tell you where he landed, but they miss the actual story: the climb itself.
The methodology is elegantly straightforward. Every eligible artist’s Power Ranking score gets compared to the previous month, and their percentage growth determines their placement on the Rising Artist chart. An artist who jumps from 100 points to 250 just posted a 150% increase—the kind of surge that could land them at number one. Because it uses the same underlying data as the Power Ranking (streams, releases, social engagement), the rigor remains intact. What changes is the lens: instead of measuring volume, they’re measuring acceleration. And there’s a crucial eligibility rule that keeps the chart honest—once an artist sustains mainstream success for six consecutive months, they graduate permanently. No established stars swooping back in after a quiet period to claim a slot that belongs to a genuine breakout act.
The timing isn’t accidental. Q1 2026 made this chart necessary, with names like FOLA, Kidd Carder, Famous Pluto, and 6uff suddenly shifting the conversation after barely existing in it a year prior. Afrobeats has reached a point where the front door and the back door open at the same speed—veterans and newcomers alike can catch fire within weeks. The Power Ranking tells you who’s inside the building. The Rising Artist Ranking tells you who’s rushing through the entrance and how fast they’re moving. Together, they paint the full picture of an Afrobeats month: who holds the throne and who’s building the ladder to it.
